Program Results

LVWCC marks its success by the achievement of   improved reading, writing, speaking and English comprehension skills in our adult learners. Administering pre and post tests allow us to accurately measure learner gains while our unique programming (private individualized 1:1 tutoring, small and large group conversation groups and family literacy reading programs) allow us to provide learners with effective literacy services.

Measuring Progress

Tutors submit quarterly Contact Logs to the LVWCC office which capture hours spent, topics covered and goals achieved. LVWCC staff administers an initial pre–test and an annual post test t to each adult learner. ABE/GED students are given the SORT-R test.  GED students are given a series of TABE tests; and ESL students are given the Best Literacy test.   These combined efforts enable us to monitor each student’s gains. On average both ESL and ABE students gain one grade level after one year or instruction in our program.   Adult learners are graduated from the program after goals are met and/ or they have advanced to reading above the 9th grade level.  However, LVWCC support doesn’t stop there; adult learners are always welcome to attend Conversation Café to practice conversation skills and many maintain friendships with tutors and fellow students.
