Literacy Volunteers Annual Spell-A-Thon

On June 7th, Literacy Volunteers Western Cook County celebrated the 13th Annual

“Spell-A-Thon” at Holley Court Terrace in Oak Park. Local library and community teams competed in the annual spelling competition to raise money for LVWCC adult literacy programs. Congrats to our 2011 competition winner was 1st time competetors "Rotary Club of Oak Park River Forest"! The winning team recieved gift certificates from Downtown Oak Park.

 

The annual “Spell-A-Thon” raises funds to support LVWCC’s ongoing volunteer literacy services in over 32 communities. Literacy Volunteers provides free one-to-one and small group services for adults who are improving their reading and writing skills, learning English as a new language, or working to obtain their GED. In fiscal year 2010, LVWCC served over 150 adults through its network of volunteer tutors and participating libraries.
